Meet Our Artist

All About Curtis
Grew up in Brownfield, Texas just south of Lubbock, my father was a pharmacist and his family was in the oil industry. My mother was an art teacher, her maiden name is Chisolm and her family is very proud of their ranching heritage up north of Amarillo.
Always drawing and painting, a career in art seemed natural although my dad really encouraged a medical degree. I ended up taking several anatomy and biology classes but quickly realized it wasn't right for me. I studied at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas Tech, Texas State and finally found graphic design through the Portfolio Center out in Atlanta. Spent the first 8 years learning the ropes at design and advertising agencies before starting Neighborhood Studio in 2010. Best job I've ever had, fortunate to have found amazing clients and grateful to Ozarka for this opportunity!

How the Bottle Was Made
I think the main theme is small town Texas sense of community and laid back nature. A simple passing wave on a two lane highway, holding doors for people, I still say "yes sir" and "no ma'am" because it was so ingrained in me growing up.
Maybe the night skies? Gotta love those big open views, creates a great backdrop for all the little vignettes in the bottle
Glad we could put some nods to the landscape and flora. I've collected and propagated different prickly pear varieties from all over the state.
Growing up in the panhandle you don't have much interaction with water, outside of a swimming pool. Wasn't until I transferred from Texas Tech down to Texas State that I really got a chance to enjoy the rivers of central Texas.
Maybe "the Front Porch Song" by Robert Earl Keen. I love the storytelling, Mexican food, old trucks, movie theaters, and the old hard working neighbor sharing stories about the past- its got it all. Best heard live and even better at Gruene Hall.
I get inspiration all over the place, reading, traveling, drawing, looking at art history books- really any time I can get away from a computer.
I was an exchange student to Europe for my junior year of high school- still relatively fluent in Dutch!
There are obviously lots of ways to find division lately but the underlying sense of friendship and camaraderie are alive and well in the state of Texas. Just bring 'em a casserole!
